Travelling afar and travelling within

5:00am… Wake up before the sun, start to run.

As I write, I’m coming to the end of Paula Constant’s story of walking across the Sahara dessert.  It’s called ‘Sahara: A journey of love, loss and survival’.

I’ve always loved tales of people taking on incredible challenges; be it walking across the Sahara, ascending Mount Everest, or choosing to live in foreign countries where they don’t know the language or customs and even sitting down to order a simple meal becomes a momentous accomplishment.

I too have had my fair share of travels – over land, air and sea – and I guess some were more adventurous than others.

Sailing from Toronto to the Bahamas is amongst my most memorable travel experiences.  As are walking in the Andes, canoeing in the Amazon, and swimming in the billabongs of Kakadu National Park. (more…)

Information and enlightenment; it’s all ready and waiting for you

An Apple for lunch

Many people on the planet – particularly those who follow the Kundalini yoga tradition – are celebrating this day; 11.11.11.  It’s viewed as the beginning of a new age – the Age of Aquarius, where the word Aquarius is understood to refer to ‘enlightenment’.

The man responsible for bringing Kundalini Yoga to the West, Yogi Bhajan, taught that as we move out of the Age of Pisces (in which we’ve been residing for the last 2000 years), we will see a shift away from fear, power, control, hierarchies, hidden information, and machines, and towards love, co-operation, freely accessible information, and truth embodied in practical action.

Of course, you need only look around you to see this reflected in everyday life.  Movements are springing up which question the hierarchies that have been created out of the current socio-economic system of the West, namely capitalism.  Information is being shared in greater amounts and in quicker time than ever before, and people are awakening spiritually in ways that we have not seen in the West for thousands of years, perhaps ever.

It is my personal belief that in this day and age, there are very few reasons left for not waking up and living an enlightened existence.

This is no longer an opportunity afforded to the precious few, it is available to all.  (more…)

People who are crazy enough to think they can change the world

Steve Jobs and Bill Gates

In last week’s post I made the following statement:

Your power to create worlds is as great as any other and your one and only job is to allow that power to flow through you.  The more you allow the flow, the more influence you have.

In the wake of Steve Jobs’ passing, this much is clear; the man was certainly willing to allow such a power to flow through him.

I have great admiration for people who play the game of life at such a large scale.  With a commitment to bringing something new to the planet, spectacular successes and failures follow, all in the spotlight of public scrutiny.

Whether or not you agree with what such people do with their lives is rarely the point.  The point is they got out there.  They made a contribution.  The world is different as a result of their life.

You too have this power.  Not to become the next Steve Jobs but to be the most authentic, the most unique, the most astounding you.  Harness your willingness to do just that and who knows what is possible? (more…)

Energy, consciousness and matter… it’s all expanding at an accelerated rate

Taking The World By Storm

This week it was announced that a team of scientists in the US and Australia had won the Nobel Prize in Physics for the “discovery of the accelerating expansion of the universe”.

Yes, they have scientifically confirmed that the universe is growing and it’s growing at an accelerated rate.

I was intrigued to read that the Scientists were shocked by their own discovery.

Everyday I see evidence of a growing shift in consciousness and awareness – I see people waking up to their true nature.  I see people reconnecting with their deepest selves.

The expansion of the universe and the expansion of consciousness.

Happening at the same time. (more…)

3 easy steps for uncovering your life purpose

Oprah with Sen. Obama in Des Moines, IA
Sometime ago I learned that Oprah Winfrey’s prayer for her life has always been this; “Use me, God.  Show me how to take who I am, who I want to be, and what I can do, and use it for a purpose greater than myself.”

If you find the word ‘prayer’ has too many religious overtones for you, use the phrase ‘life purpose or intention’.  In essence, they’re much the same and at its core, what Oprah has been asking for is this; for the force or forces that move the tides and the moon and keep the sun orbiting around the earth, to move through her in a way which is beneficial to others.

Through the welcoming of this enormous life force, powers of communication and abundance, of expansion and understanding, of wisdom and knowledge, have all been expressed through her. (more…)

Stuck in a rut? A simple solution

dreams 9I am an avid watcher of TED talks.  The Dakini Circles program is absolutely littered with my favourites.

I love the people they draw, the ideas they have, the inspiration they bring to my life.

Today I wanted to share a very short (3 min 27 sec) talk from a TED conference held in February of this year.  The speaker’s idea for getting out of a rut and creating change in your life is incredibly simple and therefore easy to implement.

The Dakini Grace philosophy is one of creating sustainable change in people’s lives.  It’s not about waiting and hoping for a different lifestyle.  It’s not about putting off life changes until you’ve had the next baby, bought the next house or retired from your job.

It’s about starting now by starting simply.

We don’t need to know how we’re going to deal with every turn in the road before we take the first step.  We simply need to be willing to actually take that step.  And then to step again.  And again.

As we build momentum, personal growth comes from taking the time to notice the joy, the satisfaction that is always available when you choose to be fully present in your life.  As we step into that, the goal becomes less significant and the journey everything.  For it’s the journey which teaches us; which changes us. Your road has been paved for you and you alone

In the last few months, the following events occurred in my life:

1. Life messages from unexpected sources

I had the following quote from Barbara Sher flashing up on my screen saver: Whatever your dreams are, start taking them very, very seriously.

Each time I saw the quote I’d think, ‘Absolutely.  If only we all had the courage to do this.’

I had learned that lesson well.  Or so I thought.

Recently Barbara’s quote was replaced with the German proverb: What’s the use of running when you’re not on the right road?

‘Absolutely,’ I thought.  ‘If only we were all running on our right roads, what an amazing world we’d live in.’  Again, I believed myself to have learned that lesson well.

And yet…..

Those words continued to flash in front of my face, day after day.

2. Extreme happiness

During this whole ‘life lesson delivered by screen saver’ experience, I was taking a break from teaching my general yoga classes.  I was focused entirely on writing, developing the course content for Dakini Circles, and meeting with women for 1:1 alignment sessions.  I was supremely happy.  Thrilled in fact to wake up with the prospect of filling each day with such activities.

Now, for a long time I’ve been in the practice of noticing when I’m supremely happy.  It’s a not so subtle hint from the universe to KEEP GOING. (more…)

Focusing on money limits abundance

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

One of my favourite bloggers, Chris Guillebeau sets an annual theme for his life and business.  2010 was scale and reach.  2011 is the year of taking flight.

Personally I didn’t set a theme for 2010.  Perhaps it was because I was caught up in the early, heady days of a relationship that would draw me across the oceans, back to my homeland and into a wonderful marriage.  Perhaps that was it.

Or perhaps it was because I was still wading in the toddler’s pool, taking my first tentative steps into the world of self-employment and entrepreneurism, wondering when someone would intervene and ask what on earth I thought I was doing, playing in a pool in which I clearly had no experience.

Either way, I didn’t set a goal or a theme.  It turns out though, a theme found me.

And that theme was trust and abundance.

Despite my fears and lack of experience in the world of self-employment, throughout the year I trusted that all would be well, that I would be taken care of and that the focus and direction of the business would reveal itself to me.  In return, I was rewarded.  I was rewarded with an almost overwhelming amount of abundance.  The focus and direction of the business did reveal itself to me and in the meantime, I was taken care of, in every possible way.
