A simple guide to changing your emotions

Radio Bedside Wansat 4002 - Box CourvinIn a world which has been shown at its core to be an infinite field of energetic vibrations, capable of transformation in the blink of an eye, human beings are remarkably fond of making definitive statements about ‘the way the world is’.

In truth, there is no ‘way it is’.  There is only the way you see the world and the way your friend sees the world and the way your neighbour sees the world.  All are true in their experience but none are absolutely true.

So, where does that leave us?

With choice.

The choice as to which vibrational waves we want to ride and which we’d like to leave alone.

My friend Joel Young describes it this way; radio waves are constantly transmitted through the air. BBC World Service for example is playing all around the globe everyday.

I’m not currently hearing it and in all likelihood neither are you.

We could hear it though, if we decided to tune in.  We’ve developed a device to do this.  It’s called a radio.

So it is with all other vibrations.

Take emotions for example.  Each offers a vibration.

  • Some are very strong and dominant – fear, anger, rage, terror.
  • Some are quiet and more subtle – contentment, satisfaction, fulfilment.
  • Some bubble over – joy, happiness, love, amusement, enthusiasm.

As human beings we are tuned into these all the time.  We don’t need a radio.

In your own life, you will have regularly experienced yourself tuning in, in a very natural and unconscious way.

Perhaps you’ve noticed when someone is very negative at work, their mood can quickly affect the entire office.  You might find yourself starting to feel upset about the ‘small stuff’ at work, or perhaps you become uninspired about showing up.

On the other hand, enthusiasm can be infectious.  Just a couple of people in the office who really love their job and who live that each day can completely turn around a working environment.

You have probably have caught a laugh or a yawn at some point too.  You know when someone starts laughing uncontrollably for no particular reason and you just find yourself joining in?  Or when another person yawns, even over the phone, and you find yourself yawning too.

Traders and real estate agents will reflect something similar when their respective markets crash.  Fear is infectious and there is a strong compulsion to become caught up in a selling frenzy when others around you are making decisions based on fear.

We all have our very own antennas with which to tune into the world and the capacity to tune into the emotions of others seems to be particularly well developed amongst human beings.

We also have the capacity to make choices.

If your dominant experience in life is one of disappointment or frustration, annoyance or irritation, you have the capacity to choose a different emotional radio wave.

Choose Bliss Fm instead.  Or Stillness FM or Acceptance FM.  They’re all there and all available to choose from.

So much of our lives are spent trying to get people to behave in ways that we think will make us happy or we behave in ways we think will make others happy.  Such an approach is a minefield which finds you spending hours tuned into Disappointment, Effort and Unworthiness FM.

The alternative is simply to tune into Happiness FM.  In so doing you’ll become infectious, others will tune in, and you’ll be doing a great service to your friends, family and colleagues who, like you, at their core just want to be happy.

So, which emotional radio stations will you choose into today?

Today, as on all days, I’ve floated around, from Stillness FM to Serious and Responsible FM and currently I’m tuning into Amused FM.  (And in case you’re wondering, I preferred Stillness and Amused to Serious and Responsible!)

What about you?
